Baltimore Eats: Tony’s Japanese Restaurant Review

I am absolutely in love (to put it midly) with Hibachi Grills – Ya know, the places where chefs come out & cook your meal right in front of you, providing endless entertainment of flying shrimp, onion volcanoes, hilarious stories and knife throwing.

Onion Valcano

My favorite place to go is Tony’s Japanese Restuarant. This place is neatly tucked into the Princess Shopping Center in Eldersburg, Maryland. I would choose Tony’s over Ginza any day. When I was first told to try Tony’s my immediate thought was ‘You want me to go to a JAPANESE restaurant named TONY’S? Yeah, sounds real authentic.’ However, I’ve been to plenty of Hibachi Grills & the Chef at Tony’s beats them all, hands down. He was actually a Vietnamese man with tons of tricks & intellect up his sleeve. We ended up having a really interesting and entertaining conversation throughout our meal about Vietnam and the Vietnam war… It really was a thrill. The food was delicious and full of flare. (After all, that’s why we go to hibachi grills, right?!)

The meal starts off with a bowl of Miso Soup & Ginger Salad. It’s to die for!! I’m a huge sucker for Ginger Salad Dressing. But this… This was a beast all of it’s own delicious species. I would kill for the recipe.

The Miso was so good, I may have had Zack's too...

Then the real fun begins ;) He started dicing up veggies faster than I’ve ever seen. (Mind You, I went to Culinary School..) & whipping shrimp at us, to make sure we were paying attention. One smacked me square in the face mid-sentence. Flattering. :P

Zack had the Steak & Scallops combo, while I ordered the Chicken & Shrimp (Hello fat asses… To be fair, about 80% of the entree was taken home as left overs… I always get full on soup/salad… plus all the shrimp he threw at us.)

It was just so darn good.

If you don’t want anything from the grill, sushi and other entrees are also an option. Last week Zack’s Step-Mother was in town & while Z was at work we decided to get some lunch.. We had told her the night before about our discovery, the adorable – tiny- hole in the wall Japanese Steak House full of charm. So, we decided to grab some sushi. Oh. My. Gosh. As if the Hibachi dining experience wasn’t good enough. Some of the best Sushi I have tried in the Baltimore Area!!!

Not gonna lie... Some of it freaked me out. But, i was surprisingly Adventurous

Listen, folks. If you are ever in or around Baltimore – take the time to stop for what I guarantee will be a delicious and fun-filled meal! You can thank me later.
